Student Branch History
The original charters for student branches of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Institute of Radio Engineers at the University of Tennessee were issued in 1923 and 1947 respectively. A charter for a joint student branch of these two organizations was issued in 1959. The union of the parent organizations was issued in 1959. The union of the parent organizations in 1963 formed the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The the current University of Tennessee IEEE student branch came into being.
